Joy’s Blog

Welcome to my Blog. I

Not a lot of time for creativity today. Too busy with housework. (It has to be done sometime) But this is one of the new creations. A small cosmetic bag with butterfly trim.

It’s ben a busy time since I last updated this Blog. Whilst the main season of craft fairs at Mevagissey ended in mid-October there have been lots of Christmas Fairs throughout November and December, right up to Christmas Eve, which have proved to be both fun and profitable.

Since then I have been busy increasing stocks for the new season. The latest are these pyrography items

I’ve also been very busy in the sewing room, Check out the new Quilts in Grandma’s Workbox.

Yet again it has been many months since I revisited these pages. As many of you will know, I lost my dear husband, Rob, at the beginning of February and I’m afraid sitting in front of a computer has been low on my list of priorities.

However, with a lot of help from friends I am beginning to rebuild my life and have started painting and crafting once more.

I have spent the summer running a stall three days a week at the Mevagissey Craft Fair, which has been a great deal of fun (and not a little hard work). I’ve also spent some weekend with the Peacock Crafters in Plymouth in company with my daughter (who runs Fire in the Wood).

I am now attempting to rebuild this website and add some new items, both artwork and in the craft section. I have continued to produce shawls, lap blankets and quilts, together with many items of children’s and adult clothing which have sold well and am now building up stock for the Christmas Market in mid-November. Here is just a small preview.

I’ve also started making small items of jewellry of which these are just a small example.

At the height of the summer I also revisited my past love of playing with the children and took my Face Painting to the Craft Market to entertain the children whilst their parents took a well earned rest with a cuppa in the cafe. It was great fun and I’m currently advertising the service locally for children’s parties, fun days, etc. so for those of you who are within my actual vicinity, please feel free to get in touch or to pass my details on to any friends or neighbours and “Nanna Joy” will be delighted to make an appearance.

I’ll try and update my Blog more regularly in the future to keep you up to date with all that has been going on here so watch this space for any updates to the pages. I’ve updated to reflect the sold items but have yet to photograph and log any new products. I guess the revamp will take a while. LOL

Golly, I can hardly believe that over eight months has passed since I updated my Blog. You can tell that I’m not as adept at this as the youngsters to whom it all comes naturally. I have, however, been extremely busy both in the studio and with various craft projects.

Some recent paintings include:

I joined Sketchbook Revival on Facebook for 2022 and thoroughly enjoyed the different videos and trying out new technicques.

I was particularly interested in the zentangling. I hadn’t come across this for many years although I used to know someone who was proficient at it and I enjoyed the discipline of creating the intricate patterns and taking it further into full scale pictures.

One of the pieces I produced with Sketchbook Revival centred around my beautiful golden cocker spaniel Scrumpy. A poignant piece as I lost him to cancer only a few short weeks later and miss him terribly.

I also found myself enjoying pen and ink drawing especially boats:

More recently I’ve been very involved with craft work, both quilting and crotchet. I made a lap quilt which went to a new home in Canada

I have three new crotchet baby blankets currently completed and ready for sale and am just starting on yet another new quilt.

And, I guess for now, you’re up to date with everything that has been going on in the studio in recent months. I hope you enjoy seeing the new items.

It’s been a busy time in the studio. After finishing the couple of baby quilts just in time for the exhibition I then turned my attention back to building up my crafts in readiness for the fun day at the beginning of September in the gardens of Trenance Cottages. (Fingers crossed for good weather….August has been a bit of a washout.)

I’ve designed a couple of small children’s games done in pyrography. One is a reversible jigsaw – just 9 pieces. Large enough for little hands and interesting enough pictures for slightly older children. The other is similar – 10 pieces – based on the old game of pairs and the reverse side is a game of Noughts and Crosses.

You’ll find full details on the Pyrography Page.

Meanwhile our exhibition has been in full swing down at Trenance Cottages. I’m anxious to know how well we have done or if Covid has restricted the interest this year. We close down the exhibition tomorrow afternoon.

Almost up to date. I’ve spent hours recently in the studio on the paperwork for the first Exhibition of the 2021 season at Trenance Cottages, Newquay, to say nothing of the time preparing my own exhibits for the event. The two quilts were only finally completed the night before handing in!!!! However, we all arrived at the cottages full of energy on Friday afternoon to set everything up and it looks lovely. Thanks for taking the photos Diane. As usual I’d forgotten my camera. Here are a couple of the photos courtesy of Diane, the rest can be seen on the Newquay Society of Artists page on Facebook, here: https://www.facebook.com/NewquaySocietyofArtists

With Covid restrictions finally lifted we were able to hold our postponed AGM for the Newquay Art Society so I spent a lot of time in the studio ensuring that all the paperwork was up to date and ready for the event, all the members were sent details and that the necessary Covid precautions were covered. We were few in number but everything went off well, including the introduction of our new Auditor, Steve Ashby or Keltic Accounting Services. Thanks for stepping into the role Steve.

We had a display of members paintings on the night and voted for Best Picture which was won my Margaret Bendle. Well Done, Margaret.

We also had a draw taken from all the top three paintings from the 2019 Exhibition Season Best In Shows and my painting The Way Through The Woods was seleted to grace the front cover of this years Events Programme. The painting can be viewed on the Acrylics Page.

As I’ve now taken on the role of Membership Secretary to run alongside that of Treasurer it’s meant even more time at the computer to make sure that everyone is kept up to date with everything and things are once again beginning to move. Exhibitions, the possibility of Open Studios, and just general information.

Goodness, I seem to have been so very busy recently and had no time to get on here and update the pages. How very remiss of me. The first thing that took up my time wasa watercolour painting to commemmmorate the worst mining disaster in Cornish history when 39 men and boys lost their lives at the East Wheal Rose Pit. It depicts the remains of the old engine house and the names of all those who lost their lives are presented in caligraphy as a border. You will find a copy of the painting on the Watercolour Page. Here is a photograph of when the painting was first presented to Lappa Valley.

I’ve spent a little time in my Studio this week. I was gifted some new DecorArt Acrylics so, obviously, I had to try them out. A small floral painting of Poppies which you will find on the Acrylics page.

Well, it won’t take much for you to know that I’m unused to Blogging but I’m learning.

I hope I can begin to keep you updated with what’s going on in my Studio and the new pieces I’m creating (and even some that have been done a while but have only just found their way onto the website.)

My latest upload is in the Acrylics page (Sunshine and Shadows) and is one of the largest pieces of artwork that I produce. I hope you enjoy and, as ever, I always love to hear your comments.
